Do you ever get bored of your wardrobe? But can’t afford a new one? Have you got loads of old clothes sitting around, cluttering up your room? Do you fancy a new look for Autumn?
Then a SWISH party is for you!
It’s a really fun way to get a new look. Simply get together with your friends and swap clothes. It works even better if you can get a larger group together – say your street, or another community group. According to the official swishing site, there are 5 simple ‘rules’ to follow:
1) Everyone must bring at least one item of quality clothing. 2) You will have half an hour to browse before the swish opens. 3) No item may be claimed before the swish opens. 4) As soon as the swish is declared open, everyone may take what they want. 5) Remember no scratching, spitting or fighting! (Tee hee, like any of you rubbish dieters out there would do this!!!)
There’s loads of organisations to help you – visit Lucy Shea’s site (the founder of Swishing) for inspiration and to see whether there’s already an event coming to your neighbourhood soon. Or, your local authority or waste association may have resources that you can use.
Sarah Kersey, our West London Co-ordinator did just that. With the help of the West London Waste Authority, who’ve provided her with rails, hangers and other bits and bobs, she’s putting on a series of Swish’s over the next few months.
If you’re in the neighbourhood why not pop along? She’s holding them at our ever-so-cool-temporaryily-loaned building – The Rubbish Diet Hub, Townsend House, Ground Floor, 160 Northolt Road, South Harrow, HA2 0EG – and the first one is this Saturday. The Swish starts at 11am, when you can drop off your clothes, then whilst we’re sorting them, we’ve got a fun Rubbish Diet activity, and then, on the marks of 11.30am, the Swish begins!
We’d love to see you there – but we’d also love to hear about any Swish’s you’re planning to put on, or have put on recently. How did they go? Was there an item that you’re really happy about getting? Do get in touch…
