This evening on ITV1, TONIGHT explores how our love affair with disposable plastics has reached crisis point, with only one third of consumer plastics currently getting recycled in the UK, tonnes of plastic floating in our oceans, washing up on our beaches and even entering our food chain. Helen Skelton investigates for TONIGHT whether it’s possible to live without plastic entirely.
Featured in the programme is our co-founder Karen Cannard, who sets a family from Leeds a challenge to reduce their single-use plastic footprint.
Also featured are waste and environmental experts from across the industry, highlighting the issues at stake and the opportunities that we have to recycle better, design out waste and move towards deposit return systems. The programme also covers the issue of black plastic trays and investigates what is being done about it.
The documentary is scheduled for 7:30pm on ITV1. If you can’t wait until tonight, catch a teaser this morning when Karen and the Hatton family chat to Christine Lampard, live on the Lorraine show – ITV1, 8:30am-9:30am.
How have you made an extra effort recently to reduce your plastic consumption? Do tell us, we’d love to know.
