We had a query from a bin slimmer about used foil.
She asked “What can you do with tin foil after you’ve roasted chicken, joint or whatever? It’s impossible to get clean enough to recycle.”
We spoke to a waste minimisation officer at a local authority who said “It just needs to be free of food waste. Ultimately its going to an aluminium smelter to be melted down at 800 degrees C so any traces of contamination will be melted away but its important for the crews and your own personal hygiene that recycling is rinsed free of food.”
The easiest way to store foil for recycling is to scrape off food waste then scrunch it all up together into one big ball.
